with several homes, but the extreme amount of fire, it went to three alarms with 120 firefighters on the scene. and like you said, the damage was sustained at a single- family home. >> only one person received minor injuries. we also heard reports that firefighters were going door to door to make sure that everyone is okay. >> right. >> we have evacuated. made sure we have an account for all the citizens in the area. there were two people that were treated for minor injuries. one minor burn and one cut. and 14 to 16 people have been displaced and they are being relocated to the community center. >> reporter: any cd how this happened -- any idea how this happen? >> no, that is under investigation by the city fire marshal. >> do you know where it started and which homes? >> reporter: yes, that's identified. >> reporter: was it the middle

home? >> no, it went from one structure and the wind and the heat spread it house to house. and the heat was affected and the melding of the siding on the surrounding homes in the area. >> reporter: another part that i have been seeing, people with masks on, because even residence, they are covering their faces because the smell is so potent that the smoke is just sod baa -- so bad. but also the chemicals in the air right now. >> reporter: right, the vinyl siding, they have made a boundful, you know, product. and it sets off gases. and it should be self- eliminating over time. >> reporter: lastly, how long are you going to be here? are you cleaning up right now? >> the fire is contained. they are going to mop up the other fires right now. and to tell you about the investigation and to make sure that all of them are relocated. >> three homes destroyed. four others are damaged.

you can see them still trying to figure out what caused the massive fire. no one injured. and a hand, minor injuries there, but right now, trying to figure out what caused this fire. live here in the city of manassas, surae chinn, 9news now. >> all right, thank you. >> this one in virginia. and they were saying there was no sign of the accelerant here. they are just not sure what caused a fire to kill anita brikman mother and two of her children. they are still on the story and peggy, we know that three other children survived. what do we know about them and how they are doing tonight? >> reporter: well, the twod older children, an 8-year-old girl and a 6-year-old boy, they are both fine tonight. and in fact, they could have been released from children's hospital. and the father, they did not want to leave, so they will all be released tomorrow. now, take a look. this is the burning house that

the three children escape from. the older two jumped out of the two-story window. and their mom, she was able to drop the baby into the arms of a friend. she saved those three kids lives, but she could not save herself or her 5-year-old. the family is trying to keep up the spirits by focusing on the three children that survived. and there is no smoke in their lungs. they are healthy, they were up day-to-day. the baby is doing great right now. >> she has taken that up today. and tomorrow, they are going to discharge it. when you have heard about that. as soon as you get up. >> reporter: now outside a home that burns, a makeshift memorial. people are leaving flowers and

also, collecting donations for the surviving children. we do have words from the fire department that the three who died, the two children and the mother, they all died of smoke inhalation. and we know more about that family friend. the nanny who was f catching the baby, still in the hospital with the tubes down that area. he will be fine. we're told. >> reporter: we're also told by the family that anderson was deemed evicted from his house here because she couldn't pay the bills. on monday, she had an appointment set up with the social worker that she was sick and couldn't make that appointment. she was going to be moving into a shelter for the time being to try to get her life back in order. but sadly that never happened and we know the tragic outcome then of being here. yesterday that is reported live. peggy fox, 9news now. >> thank you. in a little less than three hours, they will execute the first woman in nearly a century.
